Getting started

Choose your hotkey

Right ⌘ Command works best if your left hand is on the mouse. Left ⌘ Command is better if your right hand is on the mouse. If Left ⌘ triggers during shortcuts like ⌘C or ⌘V, increase the Hold delay in Preferences → Advanced.

Local Models

Your exact words with basic punctuation

Transcribes what you say with basic punctuation and capitalization — no filler removal, no grammar fixes. No internet needed, everything stays on your Mac. Fastest option (~1 second). Great for quick notes, chat messages, and search queries.

Cleanup

Your words, but clean and ready to send

Removes filler words (um, uh, like), fixes grammar, adds punctuation, and organizes text into paragraphs. Corrects mistakes you made while speaking. The result sounds like you — just polished. Great for emails, messages, task lists, and meeting notes.

Rewrite

Professional text from your spoken thoughts

Takes your ideas and restructures them into clear, well-organized prose. Fixes structure, improves flow, and makes it sound professional — while keeping your meaning exactly as you intended. Use it for business emails, reports, and proposals.

Real-time translation

Speak in one language, get text in another. Choose your target language in Preferences and toggle Translation on or off from the menubar menu. Supports 40+ languages. Works with all AI processing modes.

Your first dictation

Hold the hotkey, speak naturally, release. That's it. A small pill appears at the center of the screen showing Sosin is listening. When you release, clean text appears at your cursor — in whatever app you're using.

Daily use

Custom Vocabulary

If Sosin keeps misspelling a word — a name, a product, a technical term — add it to Custom Vocabulary in Preferences. Sosin will prefer your spelling when the audio sounds similar.

Adjust hold delay

If Sosin briefly activates during keyboard shortcuts, go to Preferences → Advanced and increase Hold delay from 300ms to 500ms. This gives more time before dictation starts. Especially useful with Left ⌘ Command, which is also used for shortcuts like ⌘C and ⌘V.

Dictate lists naturally

Just say "First... Second... Third..." and Sosin will format it as a numbered list. No special commands needed. For example: "Hi Sarah, here are the next steps. First, finalize the design. Second, send the proposal. Third, schedule a call for Friday."

Lost a dictation? Check Overview

Every dictation is saved in Overview (click the Sosin icon → Overview). If you lost your cursor or the text went to the wrong place, your dictation is still there — just copy it from the list.

Track your usage

The Usage tab shows how much you dictate: time today, this month, and all time. For managed plans (Starter/Plus), it also shows your daily AI limit and how many minutes remain. For BYO Key users — estimated API cost.

Works in any app

Sosin pastes text wherever your cursor is — email, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, VS Code, Terminal. If you can type there, Sosin can too. No plugins or integrations needed.

Troubleshooting

Background noise triggers

If Sosin picks up background noise as speech, increase Sensitivity in Preferences → Advanced. Higher values ignore quieter sounds. Default is 600 — try 800–1000 in noisy environments.

Better microphone, better results

The built-in Mac microphone works, but an external microphone (even AirPods) gives clearer audio and fewer transcription errors. Choose your input device in Preferences → Advanced.

Something not working?

Go to Preferences → Advanced → Send Diagnostic Report. This opens your email client with Sosin's debug log attached. The log contains only technical events — no personal data, no dictation text.

Data collection and purpose

We collect and process data for the following purposes:

The only personal data we store in identifiable form is your email address — whether provided during license purchase, submitted via the contact form, or received through payment processing. All other identifiers (device fingerprints, IP addresses) are anonymized using irreversible cryptographic hashing before storage and cannot be used to identify you.

Lawful basis for processing: contract performance (providing the service you subscribed to), consent (contact form submissions), and legitimate interest (usage monitoring, service improvement).

Audio data — Local Models: Audio is recorded and processed entirely on your Mac using WhisperKit or Apple Intelligence (SpeechAnalyzer). No audio data leaves your device. No audio is stored after transcription.
Audio data — AI Models: When using AI Models, audio is sent to Groq, Google (Gemini API), or OpenAI for processing, depending on your plan. Audio is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored. API providers may retain request logs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, per their data policies. Your audio is never linked to your identity — there is no way to trace it back to you.
Local app data (stored on your Mac only): Dictation history (transcribed text, timestamps, app names), configuration settings, and API keys are stored locally on your Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/Sosin/. We do not have access to this data.
License activation: When you activate a license key, an anonymized device fingerprint (a one-way cryptographic hash) is stored to enforce the device limit per license. The original hardware identifier never leaves your Mac and is not transmitted to our servers. Your email address, provided during purchase, is used to track your daily AI usage across devices.
Usage tracking: For managed plans (Basic, Starter, Plus), we track daily usage to enforce your plan's quota: minutes used, number of requests, and dictation mode (cleanup or rewrite) per day, linked to your email. We also record your country code (e.g. 'EE') for service analytics — no city or precise location. Your IP address is used for rate limiting (preventing abuse) and is anonymized using one-way hashing before storage — we cannot determine your actual IP address. After 7 days, email addresses in usage records are replaced with irreversible hashes (pseudonymization), making it impossible to identify individual users from historical data. For trial users, usage is tracked by an anonymous device hash — no email is involved. BYO Key users bypass our server entirely — no usage data is collected.
Error reporting (opt-in): Error reporting is disabled by default. If you choose to enable it, we collect only technical metadata: app version, macOS version, error type, and recording duration. We never collect your dictation text, email, or license key. Reports are identified by an anonymous device hash that is not linked to your license. Error reports are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Contact form: Data entered via the contact form (name, email, message) — to respond to your enquiry. By submitting the form, you consent to the processing of this data for this purpose.
Payment data (Paddle): Payments are processed by Paddle (Merchant of Record). They handle all payment details, billing, and tax collection. Your purchase data (email, name, subscription type, license key) is stored on Paddle's platform — we access it through their dashboard for customer support purposes only. We do NOT store payment data on our servers and never receive credit card numbers.

Your audio and transcriptions are never used for training AI models.

Data storage and security

We use the following cloud services to store and process personal data. All data we control is stored in Europe. Third-party providers (Paddle) store data according to their own policies.

All service providers act as data processors and our company as the data controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The terms of personal data processing are governed by each provider’s Data Processing Addendum (DPA):

Privacy principles

We do not share your data with third parties, except as required by law.

Your audio is never stored, sold, or used for training AI models.

We follow a strict data minimization policy: all device identifiers and IP addresses are anonymized using irreversible cryptographic hashing before storage. Only your email address is stored in identifiable form, solely for licensing purposes.

Children's Data

Sosin is not intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at [email protected] and we will promptly delete such data.

Data retention

We retain data only as long as necessary:

Audio — not retained. Processed in real-time and immediately discarded.
Dictation history — stored locally on your Mac (duration depends on your plan). We have no access to this data.
Contact form submissions — retained until your enquiry is resolved, then deleted.
Payment data — managed by Paddle according to their retention policy.
Usage counters — daily limits reset every 24 hours. Email linked for 7 days, then pseudonymized. Anonymous records retained for analytics. See "Usage tracking" above for details.
Error reports — automatically deleted after 30 days. Opt-in only.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:

Right of access — request confirmation of whether we process your data and obtain a copy
Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate personal data
Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data
Right to restrict processing — request limitation of how we process your data
Right to data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon) or your local supervisory authority.

Security measures

We implement technical and organisational measures to protect your data: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), anonymized identifiers (SHA256 hashing), strict access controls, and no unnecessary data collection. Your audio is never stored, and your identity is never linked to your dictations.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Sosin application ("the App") operated by PEOPS OÜ ("we," "us," or "our"), a company registered in Estonia. By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Sosin. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

License

Sosin is licensed, not sold. Your license key grants you the right to use Sosin on one device (or multiple devices based on your plan).

Restrictions

You may not redistribute, reverse engineer, or resell Sosin or its license keys.

Intellectual property

Sosin, including its code, design, icons, and brand, is the intellectual property of PEOPS OÜ. All transcription output generated by Sosin belongs to you — we do not claim any rights to your content.

AI Output Disclaimer

Sosin uses third-party AI services and on-device models to transcribe and process speech. AI analysis may contain errors. Transcription results are provided "as is" without any guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or suitability for any purpose. We are not liable for errors, omissions, or misinterpretations in the transcribed text. Always review important content before sending or publishing.

Data Processing

With Local Models, all audio is processed on your device and never leaves your Mac. With AI Models, audio is sent to third-party AI providers for processing and is not stored after transcription. Your audio is never linked to your identity. We do not use your audio or transcriptions for training AI models.

Anonymous error reporting

If you opt in, Sosin sends anonymous error reports when something goes wrong. Reports include: app version, macOS version, error type, and recording duration. Reports do NOT include: dictation text, email, license key, device identity, or any personal data. The device identifier is a one-way hash that cannot be traced back to you. You can enable or disable this at any time in Settings. Error reports are automatically deleted after 30 days.

User content

You are solely responsible for the content you dictate and transcribe using Sosin. We do not monitor, review, or store your dictations. We are not liable for any content created through the use of our app.

Subscriptions & Payments

Monthly subscriptions (Basic, Starter, Plus) renew automatically. You can cancel anytime — access continues until the end of your billing period. BYO Key is a one-time purchase with no recurring fees. All payments are processed by Paddle as Merchant of Record. Your payment relationship is with Paddle, not PEOPS OÜ. Plans with unlimited AI usage are subject to a fair use policy — Sosin is designed for personal dictation, not automated or bulk processing. We reserve the right to contact users with abnormally high usage patterns to discuss their needs.

Refunds & Right of Withdrawal

A 7-day free trial is available with no payment required. For paid plans, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of your first paid transaction, in accordance with EU consumer protection law. Refund requests are processed by Paddle.

Bring Your Own Key (BYO Key)

With the BYO Key plan, you provide your own API keys for Google Gemini and/or OpenAI. You have a direct relationship with these providers and are responsible for any charges on your API accounts. Sosin stores your API key locally on your device only — it is never sent to our servers. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or performance of third-party API services.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PEOPS OÜ is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid for Sosin in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend and hold harmless PEOPS OÜ from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of Sosin, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Sosin is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.

Availability

We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee uptime. Local Models work without internet. AI features require internet and depend on third-party AI provider availability.

Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement at any time. You can stop using Sosin and cancel your subscription through Paddle. We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these Terms. Upon termination: your subscription ends at the current billing period, your local data (history, settings) remains on your Mac, and any cloud-side usage data is deleted. BYO Key licenses remain valid after termination unless terminated for violation of these Terms.

Changes

We may update these terms with reasonable notice. Continued use of Sosin after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Estonia. If you are an EU consumer, you retain any mandatory consumer protection rights under the laws of your country of residence.

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and PEOPS OÜ regarding the use of Sosin.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

Our privacy commitment

Privacy is not a feature we added — it is how Sosin was built from day one. We are a small, independent team. We have no investors to please, no ad revenue to chase, and no reason to collect more data than we need. Here is exactly what that means — and how we enforce it.

What we will never do

We never store your audio

Your voice is transcribed in real-time and immediately discarded. No audio file is saved on your Mac, on our servers, or anywhere in between. There is nothing to leak because nothing is kept.

We never see your transcriptions

Your dictation text is never stored on our servers. For managed plans, audio is processed through our secure server in memory only — it is never logged, saved, or accessible to anyone. For BYO Key, audio goes directly to your chosen AI provider. Your local dictation history stays on your Mac — we have no access to it.

We never link your data to your identity

Your device is identified by a SHA256 hash — a one-way mathematical function that cannot be reversed. We cannot determine which Mac sent an error report, even if we wanted to. Error reporting uses a separate hash from license activation, so the two cannot be connected.

We never train AI on your words

Your dictations are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model — not ours, not our AI providers'. All providers process your audio under data processing agreements that prohibit training on API inputs.

We never track your behavior

The app contains zero analytics. We do not track which apps you use, how often you dictate, what time you work, or what you talk about. The only numbers we store are minutes and requests per day — for subscription quota enforcement, nothing else.

We never sell or share your data

We make money from subscriptions. That is our only business model. Your data is not a product, not an asset, and not for sale. There is no ad network, no data broker, no third-party tracking.

How we protect you

Secrets in the Keychain

Your API keys and license key are stored in the macOS Keychain — the same encrypted system Apple uses for your passwords. They never appear in plain text files.

Local models, zero network

Local models run entirely on your Mac. No data leaves your computer. No internet connection is needed, no server is contacted, nothing is transmitted.

Error reporting is your choice

Error reporting is off by default. If you opt in, reports contain only technical metadata: app version, macOS version, error type. Never your text, never your email, never your license key. Reports are automatically deleted after 30 days.

Minimal data, maximum function

If you subscribe, we know your email, which plan you are on, how many minutes you used today, and your country code (e.g. 'EE' — no city or precise location). Your device ID is hashed — we cannot tell which Mac is yours. After 7 days, your email is replaced with an anonymous hash too. If you use BYO Key, your audio goes directly to the AI provider of your choice — it never touches our servers, and we store nothing. Trial users are identified by a device hash only. That is it — no names, no content, no behavior data.
